What sets me apart from other artists?

That’s such an important question, and as more and more artists rise into the scene it becomes increasingly difficult to answer. The basis, I think, is most about my connection with others. Is there something of substance there.. ..something that is deeper than just an image? It’s certainly not my clothes or attitude, which are qualities that often work for other artists. I may not spring into anyone’s attention with undeniable uniqueness, but to the people I am able to connect with, I know there is something valuable and worthwhile in that connection that becomes the most important thing, and thus, “the difference.”

It takes a little more consideration on all our parts to find out if such a connection exists between the artist and the observer, but I’ve noticed that it is always time well spent. Being an avid music fan myself, when I do find a special connection with an artist, I treasure it deeply. I begin to know that artist either through fact or assumption based on observation and I become vested if I feel we are "like" souls. This inherently affects my take on the artist’s art or music and songs I maybe hadn’t liked before take a new meaning as I begin to understand who that artist is. As I go along, it's less to me the immediate physical or visual differences that sets the artist apart, and more about what I find when I look a little closer and begin to understand who that person is.

In my case, I’m constantly reminding myself to be as conscious as possible about what’s going on around me, what the foundation of the situations surrounding me are, and what the most beneficial ways forward are. I begin to look for the same in others, and when I find it, I also find that most times I am a fan of that persons art or projections.  Material and stylistic differences fade away.

When it comes to music there are only two things on my requirements list, tone and soul. Aside from that, it’s all about the connection I feel when I look into that artist as a person and attempt to grasp their message.

What sets me apart is the same thing that sets every human apart, our own unique consciousness and the choices we make in how we spend our time. If we share similar values and are able to connect on some kind of spiritual level, we can accomplish more than we ever thought possible. It’s that connection that I’m after, and that I hope other's will find in me. It is my ultimate desire to elevate this connection and develop ideas and actions that will assist in progressing the community with freedom and equality.   ..and to have some damn good fun in the process!!

Lyrics - The Ambivalent Justice Of...

PROMISES

promises
promises and lies

all I wanted was my friends
all I wanted was to make amends
now broken pieces are all thats left
not a single word was kept

In a world of wrong or right
doesn't matter if lies are white
in your mind is where it all begins
so pay no thought to consequence

promises
promises and life
promises
promises they die

in my face is truth, waiting here for you.
better make it soon...

nowhere to hide nowhere to run
no way to do whats been undone
all I see when I look in
has been replaced by fear and sin

promises
promises take pride
promises
promises confide

ANCHOR'S AWAY

I feel the wind in the sail and the stars are shining bright
I'd swim ashore if I was able, cause I just gotta gotta gotta be with you tonight.

I will no longer live this life a stray
So Captin I'm calling Anchors Away

Some say the sea has made me crazy, but no no, that's not the case
I'm just missing you baby, I wanna wanna wanna, wanna see your face.

I will no longer live this life a stray
So Captin I'm calling Anchors Away
One less aboard, one less ocean slave
Captin I'm calling Anchors Away

ohh, I can see the bay

WON'T WAIT TOO LONG

here we are at last
got what we need to go on left the rest in the past
I'm wonderin how you feel
stand up, take charge and get ready cause this time's for real
I can feel the rise above
gonna make the break for today cause we've had enough

won't take my time, won't wait too long
oh no not me
I'll live how I feel I will live how I feel
won't waist one memory
this is my time, this is our time
and I won't wait too long no I won't wait too long.

the moment's in front of us
no longer ruled by what is and what was
when we get to the end we'll see
if we've become all the things that we wanted to be

won't take my time, won't wait too long
oh no not me
I'll live how I feel I will live how I feel
won't waist one memory
this is my time, this is our time
won't wait too long no we can't wait too long.

RIGHT ON TIME

like a loose cannon, I was born to loose, I got a switchblade runnin' through my anchor tattoo
beads of sweat are rollin off of my brow, I'm wonderin what the hell am I gonna do now?
waves are crashin', heavy lighting, all my cards on the table, but nobody's bitin'

you were right on time
you were the only one in line
you showed up without a second to lose
now i'm back in action 'cause you
were right on time

when the moon shines down baby, in the black of night,
if you see trouble comin', will you be ready to fight?
I know where I'll be standin', next to you I'm bound
side by side, we ain't givin' up ground.

you were right on time
you were the only one in line
you showed up without a second to lose
now i'm back in action cause you
were right on time

IT'S ALL COOL

I can't believe I'm hearin' again the same old shit your shovelin
I'm just tryin to let it fly
how many times you gonna say the same ole things as yesterday
I told you once I told you twice..

don't gimmie that gimmie that gimmie that, cause its all good
get 'cho mind on your honey and it'll be fine, just like it should
this ain't rocket science, nah, its easy to do.
so don't gimmie that gimmie that gimmie that, cause its all... cool.

well here we go for one more round word for word and pound for pound
I shake my head and wonder why?
take a load off now relax just like me I'm kickin' back
starin at the clouds as they drift by..

don't gimmie that gimmie that gimmie that, cause its all good
get 'cho mind on your honey and it'll be fine, just like it should
this ain't rocket science, nah, its easy to do.
so don't gimmie that gimmie that gimmie that, cause its all... cool.

THANK YOU

Hey yeah, I'm on the road and feelin' fine. (mmmhmm)
Today yeah, I'm gonna lay it all out on the line.

Freedom is the blood runnin' through my veins. It's like a burnin' flame.

You stood me up in the pourin' rain
All my cares where washed away.
Weathered and worn, but I'm as good as new.
I got just once thing to say....
Thank you

Lately, it feels so good just to be alive
Whatever road I take, you can bet I will survive.

The future's the only thing on my mind, I don't care whats behind, no.

I've been stood up in the pourin' rain
All my cares where washed away.
Weathered and worn, but I'm as good as new.
I got just once thing to say....
Thank you

IN THE END

all that has gone and travled so far, it is time, come back to the start
lay down your arms and embrace what's torn us apart.

in the end we will learn
nothing is lost in the universe
in the end, when the ashes burn
here at last is where it begins

whats been forgotten and missed on the way, it is time, listen to the call
lay down your arms, its all for one and one for all

in the end we will learn
nothing is lost in this universe
in the end, when the ashes burn
here at last is where it begins

EVIL IN DISGUISE

pain doesn't feel the same as it did, when I was younger, and just a kid
fear didn't change the things that i saw, when I was younger, and the nights where long
but time goes drifting by, like wind through the trees
I find myself asking, why is this happening to me?
oh, I guess there ain't no surprise, like evil in disguise.

alone was a word I never knew, when I was younger and still in school
everything just seemed to turn out right, and you could see forever in our eyes
but I guess time goes by, like wind through the trees
I find myself asking, why is this happening to me?
oh, I guess there ain't no surprise, like evil in disguise.

NIGHT AGAIN

the day you ran away, you left me cold
and I just wanted you to be
in my life, through the darkness, my light...

now, its night again and I'm out of sight
but you're not alone, there's watching eyes nearby
on your back, your side, your fight.

hello, its me again, have you finally found your peace?
and do you know, I'll be here always, until the end..

now, its night again and I'm out of sight
but you're not alone, there's watching eyes nearby
on your back, your side, your fight.

GOOD ENERGY

verse 1 lyrics by Azma Holiday

I belive in the power of music, I believe in the power of love. I believe everything that we do in this world is one way we all measure up
I belive that good things are to come but lessons we learn can be tough. to stand up and fight for what we thinks right thats something we can be proud of

hey hey hey, every minute, every day
hey hey hey, good energy

MY SAVIOUR

a feeling so hollow
the night bends my knees
there is no tomorrow
i'm just waiting for my soul to come alive

You're my saviour, my saviour

skeletons follow my footsteps
memories are my pain
I lay my choices to rest
I'll be done waiting when I say goodbye

You're my saviour, my saviour

Lyrics - A Lick And A Promise

THIS ROAD NEVER ENDS

Stuck down Tucson, waitin on a train.
coming form Houston, across them old plains
made it to the station, gonna see you be 9
but that train kept a rollin', on through the night.

Holed up in Billings, waitin' on a coach.
Ain't got much money, at least compared to most.
I can't afford to gamble, on what's comin' next.
Its been 3 long days now, and I ain't had no rest.

Chorus:       Well I try and I try, to get home to you.
and I cry and I cry, because I'm so blue.
Why oh why, do I keep blowin' in the wind?
I guess this road's my home, and this road never ends.

Found myself in Kansas City on the wrong side of the tracks
Is this Kansas or Missouri, and how do I get back.
stuck my thumb out, to try and catch a ride
but I woke up in Mississippi, no wallet and no pride.

How'd I wind up in Chicago? guess I was blown in by the wind.
I told myself the last time, I wouldn't wind up here again.
I look across the water, no ferry do I see
once again I'm stuck here waitin', and there ain't no one but me.

(Repeat Chorus)
(Repeat Chorus)

GIVE

These cowboy boots are worn and these faded jeans are torn and I'm lying on the horn of my Chevrolet
I've got bruises by the mile and I just can't seem to smile and its been such a long while since I got paid
But I think I found a way to make this a better day and shine a helpful light on how I live...
Give

That’s right I give, give and then I receive, its easy and it helps me create positivity
oh I just give, give and then I receive, so if you're stuck or outta luck just try it out and you will see.

I had been livin’ on the road I didn't have no where to go I was feelin' pretty low about myself
the drinkin’ I would do and the money I went through, the end was comin’ soon or so I felt
but opportunity arrived, as soon as I realized, there is purpose in this crazy life I live...
Give

And so I give, give and then I receive, its easy and it helps to create positivity
oh I just give, give and then I receive, so if you're stuck or outta luck just try it out and you will see.

Now when the days start getting long, and I wonder what went wrong, I just think of this song and look around
there's something I will find, then I make up my mind to be kind and make some common ground
I screw the cap onto the booze and then I pull on my boots and I show the world a better way to live
Give

That’s right I give, give and then I receive, its easy and it helps me create positivity
oh I just give, give and then I receive, so if you're stuck or outta luck just try it out and you will see.

MY TOWN

I was born up in the valley with a jack knife in my hand,
this land and these people taught me how to be a man.
I grew up workin cattle, while my buddies worked at the mine.
my brother he's a hunting guide and a logger in the summer time
I ran off to the city like a hobo and hunkered down, but
one thing I’ve never forgotten is that this is my town
this is my town….

Chorus:       It’s my town, and I loved livin every day, of my youth
this is my town, and this is where I'm gonna stay, until its through
no there ain't no better place, anywhere around, no, these are my people, and this is my town.

we work hard for a livin sometimes til our hands bleed,
we ain't got much but what we got is all that we need.
we help each other when times get tough and when the crops go brown,
same for when the floodin’ came and when the mill shut down
this is my town… this is our town…

(Repeat Chorus)

you can say that we’re simple
but it ain’t as simple as that
we’re a damn smart bunch of people
we know the simple life is where it’s at

(Repeat Chorus)

PERFECT COMPANY

It’s already if you think that I'm wrong
I don't care if I’m in this alone
in the end you will finally see,
we're both leaves on the same tree.

I don't think that things are goin to fast
I don’t think that this feeling will pass
in the end you will finally know
I’ve never felt this way at all…

Chrous:       when you shake that hip and you crack that smile
oh my lord it just drives me wild
and I think of all the things we could be….
when you shake that hip and you crack that smile
oh my lord it might be a while
before I find such perfect company, yeah!

you got the lovin baby that i want
It doesn’t matter if you know it or not.
come on baby won't you be mine..
don't deny that this feels right
and in the end you will finally see
things will work themselves out naturally

(Repeat Chorus)

A LIFE AGO

a life ago, I was a man you wouldn’t know
and the dirty things I've done, I must have been so blind
me and my evil ways, were workin’ towards a grave
but I was saved.

Chorus:       you and me, we made light when we couldn't see the road
now I need you to believe, in the person I've become
from the one you used to know.  ....a life ago.

the sun will rise, behind the darkness in my eyes
so forget these old tattoos, and scars that give a clue
of the way things where back when, I was a different man
and now I say to you

(Repeat Chorus)

solo

(Repeat Chorus)

Please believe, I need you to believe.
in the person I've become, from the one you used to know.
....a life ago.
....a life ago.

STAND AND BE COUNTED

There's an empty pack of cigarettes on the dash of my Ford
There's two black bags under my eyes, man this livin' is chore.
I carved my name into the bar with my trusty pocket knife
But nobody knows my face, girl this ain't no kinda' life.

Then I saw these words, written on the bathroom stall
"All you got to do in this ole world, is remember to stand tall"

Chorus:       So take my hand, and leave that whiskey in the bottle
We'll be half way home when the sun comes up tomorrow.
Don't you worry 'bout the Devil wrapped up inside your head.
Just stand, and be counted….. 1-2-3-4.

We been drivin’ this old road, lookin' for something that’s real
From Texas to Montana, but we ain't found it still.
But there'll be arms open wide, when we get to where we're goin'
At least that's what I hope, cause there  ain't no way of knowin'

But at least I’ve seen the light, and I've heard the call
"All we gotta do in this ole world, is remember to stand tall"

(Repeat Chorus)

Bridge:        solo

(Repeat Chorus)

QUEEN OF MY HEART

I cannot hide this anymore, it’s too much to ignore
It's time I finally let you know, how I have felt since the get-go.
I've thought about you every day, wished so bad you'd look my way
you wouldn't give me a second glance, and all I wanted was a chance.
oh, how I hoped you'd take the chance...

Chorus:       oh and you, you could have been the Queen of my heart
I would've given you everything
And saved you from this pain
but you turned and you walked away,
now there's nothing I can do
ohhh, cause you don’t love me..

you didn't see, you didn't stay, you found love and I slipped away
and then I heard about the news and all the hurt that he put you through
now i'm here at your side, to tell you things will be alright
if you would just look in my eyes, you would see a new sunrise
if you would just look in my eyes...

(Repeat Chorus)

oh but this is where I fold
And I take of my crown
I’m tired of being bound
By this feeling I have deep down
but I’ll love you anyway
That ain’t gonna change
There’s no way to undeal
The hand you’re dealt the cards you played…

Chorus:       You could've been the queen of my heart
I would've given you everything
saved you from this pain
oh girl, I've loved you from the start
and there's nothing I can do
but still love you

WHEN LOVE FADES

when love starts to fade
it makes embers out of flames, ain't that a shame?
when love starts to fade
it leaves you longing for when it was new and how the spark lit up and grew
until it raged out of control, burned your heart consumed your soul
ohhh, I can’t let go

Chorus:       let's light it up again, throw a match into the wind
close our eyes and pray it lands
in the middle of a second chance
and catches fire

when love starts to fade…
leaves you searching for a trace   …of yesterday
when love starts to fade
when everything we ever were has all but crashed and all but burned
and all we're left with now is dust and the ashes of what once was us
ohhh, I can’t let go

Chorus:       let's light it up again throw a match into the wind
close our eyes and pray it lands
in the middle of a second chance
lets light it up again we’ll make it right we’ll make it last
we’ll let it rage and then we never, ever will look back again.

look in to my eyes, do you see the truth?
I have realized this is what I want to do
we can do it, I know we’ll do it, c’mon lets do it!

(Repeat Chorus)

DON’T LET IT GO

There was love in your face when you found the words to say
you didn't have the strength to go on
I could see it in your eyes and I could feel it in your soul
now I’m asking baby please don't let it go

Chorus:       don't let it go, wait until tomorrow
find a way to make it through the night
don't let it go, I promise that forever
I’ll be by your side, don't let it go.

in this life in many ways i have been naive
but I’m starting to realize the things i've done
I’ve faced my fears and the consequences of the seeds that I have sown
now above all things, i just want you to know

(Repeat Chorus)

tables turn and bridges burn and even stars will fall
but take these words and understand we can make it through it all

(Repeat Chorus)

(Repeat Chorus)

I’ll be by your side..

WINDING ROAD

I've been runnin', I've been hidin', down this winding road
headed anyplace that’s far away from home
but when I sleep I dream of you and it reminds me of when
everything was right and I go back again.

Chorus:       and its the same as it was, and then it all falls again
wish I could change how it ends, but I guess that's how it goes
so these wheels they roll on down this winding road

in the night when the stars are shinin' and i'm lookin up
I think of you and the memories are just too much
so I take a drink and lean way back and start to drift away
until I'm back with you again if only we could stay.

(Repeat Chorus)

and darlin’ I realize, the pain is gone
and maybe I suppose, that I should let go
and yet these wheels, they roll on down this winding road

(Repeat Chorus)

TIME IS RIGHT

i know the moon is gonna shine tonight
i know the moon will be shinin' big and bright
I call out to it, with a sweet home melody
It shows me the way, reminds me that I’m free

Chorus:       and when the time is right, we're gonna get on down
and when the feeling strikes we'll tear up this town
there isn't anything that can make me stay
cause when the moon is right it takes me away

I know that I'll be back again someday
we'll sit and laugh over a nice wine and fillet
'til then I'm ridin' off into that west sunset
gonna see how far around this ole world I can get.

(Repeat Chorus)

All I want from this world is what's mine
not a right or a wrong this time
my friends keep tellin' me that i've gone mad
well if its true then it ain't so bad..

now if the moon is out and you're feelin cool
just remember this one golden rule
go where you want to go but there ain't no need to run
cause you will only get to where you're coming from

(Repeat Chorus)

take me away...
take me away..
